I wish Houston was less than three hours from Austin. I am contemplating driving to Houston once a quarter to shop at the new Sam’s Hispanic concept store, Más Club. I will throw a few empty ice chests in
the truck and head down there Saturday morning and return that evening with enough specialty and traditional Hispanic foods to spoil my family. Anyone interested in joining me?
Más Club opened on August 6th in North Houston and let me tell you that it is worth a visit. The selection of Hispanic specialty items and low prices is worth the gas money.
I applaud the folks in Bentonville, Arkansas for developing this concept. From the moment I walked in it is apparent that a lot of thought has gone into every single item and display in the store.
Immediately shoppers are greeted with bilingual staff members and signage. Before shopping, I advise grabbing an agua fresca at the Café. After you shop you can swing back and enjoy some carnita tacos, barbacoa or other mouth-watering dishes. They do also offer hot dogs and pizza, but why bother when the food next to it looks like your grandmother just cooked it versus being heated up in a microwave.
The fruit selection is colorful and exotic, the bakery reminds you of the panadería down the street, the meat selection makes you want to strike up a grill as soon as you get home, and the beverage and candy aisles have just about every flavor, sweet and spicy to entic
e your palette. Plus there is of course the necessary religious gifts to consider right alongside a new olla for tamales or sartén for paella. Onsite there are also services such as a Barri Money Center and medical clinic.
So buzz me if you are interested in carpooling to Houston every three months to stock up on some good food. It is worth it. Your familia will thank you.

You should call this concept the way it is. This is not hispanic; this is Mexican concept. I went to visit and the only product that I found where from Mexico. If you want to call it Hispanic, you need to offer product from Latin America.
Hi Ana – That is a valid point and I am sure a purposeful decision made by the Sam’s corporate development office due to the demographic composition of Houston being primarily Mexican.
Thank you for reading the blog. April
Well let me tell you a little bit about this store since I do work in it. This store does have some latin american products but ofcourse the majority is from Mexico. The products offered here are mostly a test run. Basically what doesn’t sell we remove and put something else in its place. Just like any other business.
Actually Más Club opened in July according to the store manager. Although we are not hispanic, we decided to take a look last week, and were so enthused about it, that we joined Más Club this Thursday. It costs only $30 a year. We found a Wolfagang Puck 18 piece cookware set for $48.01
We bought it immediately and are planning to go back today. They have a full service Meat Department. FUD, which is the hispanic equivalent to the American Oscar Mayer brand abounds throughout the store. We bought 40 ounces of Smoked turkey breast for $2.41
We saw a Sunbeam standing mixer set up for $24.95
Mane and Hair Shampoo and Conditioner duo for $10.81. I saw just the shampoo at Walmart for $8.99 If you live in the Houston area, it’s well worth to drop by there.
They have a Cafetaria setup there the is twice as big as Fiesta’s and their Fajita platters cost only $3.88 and have Beef Fajita, Frijoles, Rice and Tortillas plus condiments like salsa etc. The meat itself is more tender then Aranda’s fajitas
The atmosphere is relaxed and the people are friendly and helpful.
I bought 3lbs of yellow squash for $1.83 and 3 lbs of zucchini for $1.71 I can’t even find that at Seller’s that cheap.
And ” No”, I do not work for Más Club, I am just a very happy Customer
My mother owns a catering truck and she went to MAS club and she was overwhelmed with all the mexican products because now she doesnt need to go around to all the mexican stores trying to find all of these. I think it is a great store now that the majority of the people in houston are hispanic/mexican.
Thanks for the note Emma. It is a pretty amazing store with a lot of variety. It is good to hear that this type of store is also helpful for small business owners like your mom.
